Curl Girl Hair

Welcome back to "Cande Curls!" This week I had the privilege to do a product review on products from Curl Girl Hair. These products are catered to wavy, curly and coily hair types. Some key ingredients this line contains are Shea Butter, Babassu Oil, Tea Tree Oil and Pumpkin Seed Oil. I was sent the whole set minus the Clean Curls Moisturizing Conditioner, which can be used as a leave-in or rinsed out. So for this weeks washday I used the Co-Wash, Unstress Deep Moisturizing Masque and Curl Control Mousse. I will be reviewing these three products today.

I always start my wash day with a pre-poo of various oils and a conditioner to protect my hair during the cleansing process. I plan on doing a hair routine post in the near future to let you know exactly what I use and why. After my pre-poo I started with Curl Girl's Sulfate-Free Cleansing Conditioner Co-Wash. This product gently cleanses hair, removes build-up without stripping your hair of it's natural oils and has a low suds formula to minimize breakage. I really enjoyed this co-wash. It was thick and creamy and has a very pleasant fragrance. It gave a nice suds that thoroughly cleansed my hair while leaving it super soft and moisturized. It is definately a winner in my book. I can see myself reaching for this co-wash on my next wash day. A way to see if a procuct catered to natural/curly hair is good is to check the ingredients. It's usually a good sign if the first ingredient is water which is the case with this cleanser. Natural and curly hair crave water to stay hydrated and moisturized. Always make sure water is one of the first ingredients listed when looking for good hair care products. Curl Girl Co-Wash comes in 10 fl oz for $14.49. With the amount of product you get as well as how much I loved this Co-Wash I would say this is a pretty good price.

Next I used Curl Girl's Unstress Deep Moisturizing Masque. The masque is a weekly curl treatment that repairs dry brittle curls by quenching thirsty curls with moisture. So after rinsing out my co-wash I put a good amount of the masque on my hair then placed a plastic cap on my head. The instructions say to leave on for about 15-20 min under a warm dryer or wrap a warm towel around your head. I sat under my dryer and got a little distracted on Instagram LOL! So I probably sat there for about 45 minutes. The masque was thick and creamy and coated my hair really well. When I washed it out I used cool water to help seal in the moisture. Before adding anything to my hair I noticed my hair was super soft. This masque gave my hair so much moisture I couldn't stop touching it. As with the co-wash the first ingredient listed is water which is great. I think this masque is a great deep conditioner especially if you have damaged dry hair. With this product you get 6.7 fl oz for $14.49 which in my opinion is well worth the price for how well it moisturized my hair.

After rinsing out the masque I used a Leave-In and Curling Cream from another company followed by Curl Girl's Curl Control Curl Defining Mousse. This Mousse helps fight the frizz, seals and defines curls and gives a nice hold without the crunch. It is also enhanced with natural keratin to keep hair strong elastic and healthy. I like that this mousse defined my curls but Love that my curls aren't hard and crunchy like other mousses seem to do. You only need a little bit to get your desired style. Even after my hair had dried it was still soft and curly. As with the other products water was the first ingredient listed. With the mousse you get 10.1 fl oz of product for $14.49. Since I don't need to use so much I can see this lasting me a while which makes it a pretty good price.

Overall Curl Girl Hair has some pretty good hair products. I Love the way my hair feels and smells after this weeks wash day. My hair is soft, managable and full of moisture. Everything about this hair care line is perfect for curly girls. I definitely recomend these products because they worked perfectly and did not disappoint. So make sure to give Curl Girl a follow on Instagram @curlgirlhair and I'll leave the website link below so you can see what other products they have to offer. I hope you enjoyed this weeks review and hope you come back for more reviews on my Sweet Hair Journey.

Mane Junkie Collection

*Update: So I went ahead and did a mid week washday to give the Hair Milk Leave-In a second chance. Although I excperienced the same thing as the first time with the products taking long to absorb, I do think it is a pretty good leave-in. I would just have to be patient when using it and can maybe try using a little less. But what I do Love is its fragrance and it does make my hair manageable.

This weeks review is on hair products for all hair types, but really great for naturalista's in my opinion. I would like to thank Mane Junkie Collection for sending me some of their products to review. I was sent their Pure Obsession Conditioner (I used as a Co-Wash), Hair Milk (Leave-In) and Curl Defining Smoothie. These products are Paraben and Sodium Chloride free and can be used on chemically treated and straightened hair.  So now that I told you the basics lets find out more about each product.

Starting with the Pure Obsession Conditioner, I loved the fresh botanical scent. It was rich and creamy and was perfect for a co-wash. If my hair was longer I would imagine this conditioner keeping your hair tangle free while washing. After rinsing out, my hair was super soft and moisturized. I really liked this conditioner and it's name suits it very well, I am obsessed with the smell. For $15 you get 8 fl oz of product, which is a pretty decent price for natural hair care products on the market now.

Next is Mane Junkies Hair Milk. This is a Leave-In conditioner that repairs and softens hair. Not only is it color safe but it has a thermal protectant making it straightener safe. It can also be used on dry hair to eliminate frizz. I love that this one has the same lovely botanical scent as the conditioner but I'm not sure how I really feel about this one. After applying, it kinda just sat there. It really didn't soak into my hair like other leave- in's do if you know what I mean. I'll have to use it again next week and update this to let you know if my feelings have changed. So for now I dont love/hate it, I'm just unsure of how I feel about it at the moment. It did however leave my hair soft though, which is great. For $18 you get 8fl oz of product which I think may be a little high in my opinion. But it all depends on the product, it may be worth it to pay more for products that work great.

And last but not least is the Curl Defining Smoothie. This one has more of a floral scent which I like but not as much as the others. I really love how how my curls came out. My curls were well defined and soft to the touch. This product did just what it said it would. It is definitely one of my top favorite curl definers. For $13 you get 4 fl oz of product. I would say this is a pretty comparable price to a lot of good curl defining products if their was a little more product added.

Over all I really liked these products. They are pretty fairly priced. I will also update my thoughts on the Hair Milk because I want to give it a fair chance. I like that they are great for all hair types and that they are great for chemically treated and straightened hair. Some key ingredients in these products are Pro Vitamin B5, Smoothing proteins, Moroccan Argan Oil, Silk Protein, Botanical extracts and water is the first ingredient listed on all products. They are also cruelty free for all you animal lovers. If you are interested in these products and the other products Mane Junkie Collection has to offer I will leave the link below and make sure to give them a follow on Instagram @manejunkiecollection. I hope you enjoyed this weeks review, be sure to check back next week for my next sweet review.

Luv Doll Faced

For this weeks entry I will be doing a review on a all Natural and Organic skincare line by the name of "Luv Doll Faced." I found this company on Instagram while on the search for new natural hair and skin care products. I received one of their three step kits which includes a Cleanser, Derma Roller, Elixer and their Skin Eraser. I was really curious about the Derma Roller and was anxious to try it out. I'll give more details on each product so let's get started.

Starting with the Cleanser, I received their Soothe & Ease Facial Cleanser which is 100% all natural. The ingredients are very simple and made with Oats, Manuka Honey, Coconut Oil, Aloe and other natural oils. I have been Using this cleanser both day and night for a little over a week now and it is very soothing on my dry skin. I normally have combination oily/dry skin as well as acne and acne scars. As Fall and Winter sets in I get really dry. This Cleanser specifically helps with skin irritations and/or acne. It also helps manage irritable skin as well as helps prevent acne and skin irritations. I like this cleanser a lot not only because it natural and organic but because it has helped clear up my acne. My face has been looking so much clearer over this past week. The price for this Cleanser comes in at a pretty good price of $13 for a 8 oz bottle. Considering it's made with natural and organic ingredients that's a pretty good price.

Next product is the Skin Repair Eraser. This is a Clay mask that comes in powder form and can be used as a mask or spot treatment. It can also be used as a body mask. You mix the powder with Apple Cider Vinegar and leave on for 15-20 minutes. I have used this mask twice so far because I only do a facial mask once a week. So far I can't really tell if it has done anything really drastic for my skin, but this may be one of those products you have to try out for a longer period of time. So I will update this a couple weeks from now. The major ingredients in this mask are Bentonite clay and Oats. You get 4 oz of product for $7 but because you do mix it with ACV you actually get quite a bit of product.

Up next is the Vanish Elixir. This Elixir is good for acne prone skin as well as acne scars. I like that it also helps fight and control breakouts. As I mentioned my face has definately cleared up, but it will take a little more time trying out these products before I know if they truely work. This product is also recommended to start using in your 20's. This is a time when our skin starts to mature and to keep it young and tight we should start taking good care of our skin now. The main ingredients in this product are Tamanu Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Vitamin E and other natural Oils. For best results this Elixir is to be used After using your Clay Mask or Derma Roller. To use, wet your hands with warm water and pat face with excess water, add 3-4 drops of Elixir to your hand and pat on your face. I really like the fresh scent of this elixir, it's feels refreshing to my face after my treatments. You get 2 oz of product for $14.

Now last but not least is the Derma Roller. This product right here had me interested and eager to try out. The Roller is known to help enhace the use of these skin treatments by opening pores and regenerating skin cells at a faster rate. The needle is known to give little to no pain at all. I received the roller with 0.25 mm needles. Now I did experience very little discomfort using the Derma Roller but it was not in any way painful. I have a slight high tolerance for pain though. I have used this product twice so far and what I could see from it, it did leave my face a little red. I also noticed a little skin peeling which I guess is meant to happen to help get rid of old/dead skin cells. So I can say it does work in that way. This is another product I need to continue reviewing to give a more accurate review. The roller is suggested to be used at night time and followed by the Elixir. The price of the roller is $8 and its pretty good quality and comes with a cute see through case. You also get a card that gives you intructions on how to use all the products and a clear bag to hold them in (not shown.)

Overall I think Luv Doll Faced has a really good product line and I'm anxious to see my long term results using them. I will make sure to update this review in two more weeks to let you know my results and if my opinions have changed. I also wanted to mention that because these products are Natural and Organic they have a shelf life of one month for all liquid products. If you are curious about these products and other products Doll Face has to offer I will leave the link below. You can also check them out on Instagram @luvdollfaced and give them a follow. I hope you enjoyed my review be sure to check back in a couple weeks for an update on these products. I'll be back next week for my next Sweet Review. Bye!

Allie's Natural Hair Community

For my first official entry I wanted to do a review on some natural hair and body products that were so graciously sent to me from Allie's Natural Hair Community. So let's get started.
Since starting my natural hair journey I have been really excited to try new products to see what works best for my hair. I think this is one of the most exciting parts for me with going natural. I was sent three products which were the Vanilla Bean Butter, Honey Dew Melon Conditioner and Plantain Shampoo. What I Love off bat with two of these products is that they are dual/multi purpose. Starting with the Vanilla Bean Butter, it can be used for both hair and body. I have had these products for a while now and I Love the lite Vanilla scent of this butter. It is made with; Hemp Seed Butter, Tucuna Butter, Shea Butter, Babassu Oil, Hazelnut Butter, Pumpkin Seed Oil, Organic Brahmi Powder and Fragrance. I would describe this as a semi heavy butter because I Love using it as a body butter. I have really dry skin and it moisturizes my skin really well. The weather has been getting colder leaving my hands dry and cracking and this butter has been great. I have literally been reaching for it every day. My hair is short and fine so I found the butter a little heavy for my hair but I can see it working great on kinky hair. I honestly Love this stuff.

The next produt is the Plantain Shampoo. What I like about this Shampoo is that it is sulfate free. Shampoo's without sulfates are the best type of shampoo for naturals because it does not strip our hair of its natural oils. Though it does not contain sulfates I do get a good bit of suds while washing my hair which left me with squeaky clean hair and scalp. This shampoo consists of; Distilled Water infused with Plantain leaf, Organic Nettle Leaf, Black African Soap and Essential oil. The shampoo is thin and liquid like but you do not need much to get the job done. I have found myself reaching for this shampoo on washday when im not using a co-wash.

And last but certainly not least is the Honey Dew Melon Conditioner. This product right here has been my "Holy Grail" because it is four products in one. It is a co-wash, detangler, leave-in conditioner and daily moisturizer. When Im not shampooing with my Plaintain Shampoo I use this as my co-wash. I have used it for everthing listed above but I like it most for a leave-in and co-wash. I would describe it as a light conditioner which I think makes it perfect for all of it's uses. The ingredients listed are; Distilled Water infused with Marshmallow Root, Burdock Root and Slippery Elm, Murumuru Butter, Pumpkin seed Oil, Hazelnut Oil, Castor Oil, BTMS, Agave Nector, Guar Gum, Optiphen, Essential Oil blend and Fragrance.

So incase you haven't caught on yet,
"Im in Love with these Products!" I have been trying out new products from other companies here and there but I always come back to these. My hair and skin are in Love. These natural and organic products are perfect for any naturalista's hair and skin regiment. Though you hear a lot of people rave about certain products you don't really know if they will actually work for you unless you try it for yourself. I absolutely recommend you give Allie's Natural Hair Community a try. I enjoyed doing this review and if you are interested in these products and other's I'll leave the link below. What hair and body products are currently on your "Holy Grail" list? I'm always looking for new products to try.

Saturday, November 7, 2015

For my first blog post I wanted to explain a little bit about me and why I chose to start my blog.
I big chopped October 3, 2015 so to help keep myself accountable I thought it would be a good idea to document my progress via blog. I have never achieved length past my shoulders, it would always break off. I also used relaxers which really isn't healthy for anyone's hair. I had my hair styled in an undercut for a while and decided I was ready to grow my hair back out but I knew I didn't want to use chemicals at all. So that brought me to my decision to big chop.
With my blog I will try my best to do a weekly entry but sometimes life gets hectic so bare with me. My blog will consist of natural hair and body product reviews with a little bit of makeup reviews as well. I will also have some DIY projects along the way. My main goal is to share my personal thoughts on products I review so you will know it may be worth trying. I also hope to help encourage other naturalistas whether they are already on their journey or are ready to start but just need a little guidance. I hope you will stick around for my sweet hair journey.
